This Alef-bait was originally created and donated to Beth Chaim Congregation in Danville, California, my spiritual community, my Jewish home. These were inspired by artist, April Berger, who loaned us her Aleph-bait fabric collages when we opened our new home and by Rabbi Lawrence Kushner?s teachings in, The Book of Letters, a Mystical Alef-Bait. JewishLights Publishing, Woodstock Vermont, 1990.
As I studied Alef-bait in The Book of Letters, I took some time to meditate on each letter. In my meditations, the text came alive to me in the colors that you see in each quilt. For every letter I provide a brief interpretation. The words you read between quotation marks, are teachings from Rabbi Kushner that touched my heart.
